# Title Leaf-footed Bug (Piezogaster calcarator, male) with Biting Midges Description A male Leaf-footed Bug (Piezogaster calcarator) clings to a plant stem in a forest in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Three female Biting Midges (Forcipomyia sp.) are attached to the Leaf-footed Bug and are visibly engorged with the bug's hemolymph. This midge species is considered an ectoparasite (a parasite the lives outside the host's body).
