# Title Helmeted Guineafowl Description A domesticated Helmeted Guineafowl (Numida meleagris) flies toward a feeding area behind a suburban Chicago home. The bird was among several Guineafowls thoughtlessly abandoned in a nearby park during 2014. At least two birds were found killed but others were captured and relocated to sanctuaries. This individual was captured by local residents who brought him home and named him "Karl." Karl eventually escaped but remained in the neighborhood, surviving on insects, seeds and handouts. Months later I helped re-capture Karl and relocate him to a farm in central Illinois where he will live with other Guineafowls for the rest of his natural life.
