The Photography of Mark Swanson

About Mark Swanson

A native of south Florida, Mark Swanson began taking photographs of birds and other animals in 1977 at the age of 14. He later studied filmmaking and has created several educational films and wildlife videos.

In 2001 Swanson switched from film to digital cameras. Over the next 20 years he created a large portfolio of images that document thousands of different species of animals as well as behaviors rarely observed or photographed. He has self-published a series of photo books that combine his interests in photography, natural history, the environment, and animal rights.

Swanson moved to western North Carolina in 2021.

The prints are printed on archival digital paper and include a signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity (COA). The prints are "open editions" but very few have been (or likely ever will be) printed. Many of the prints are matted (ready for framing).

(You can also purchase "on-demand" fine art prints of any of Swanson's images via the gallery links above or on the main Photos page. On-demand prints are printed on the same quality paper as the curated prints but they do not include a COA or mat.)
